Proxy Autentication

Tuks uses a proxy server for access to the world wide web (internet). We see this as the user login to go onto the web. So, to use the internet on campus and connected to the UP network with a LAN cable, you must enter the proxy setting into your browser. But, on the WiFi or at home, you must remove the proxy setting. This becomes tedious...

But our PCs also need to get onto the internet for other functions other than you browsing the internet. These include for software such as Dropbox and the Slack desktop app. Some programs / applications allow you to enter proxy setting. Some does not. This can be problematic.

Fortunately, Tuks has Palo Alto proxy software to log into the proxy server once for all applications and software.

Setting up your Proxy Software

To set up your Proxy Software go to Proxy Software
Log in using your Portal credentials

You will have to accept the risk of a non-secure site. This is because the UP certificates are self-signed.
To do this, click on "Details"; and the on "Continue to website (Not Recommended)". The wording depends on the browser used.

Download the Palo Alto software for your operating system.
Install the software.
Once the software is installed, add the proxy server details (igp.up.ac.za) to the software.
Login to the VPN with your portal credentials.
