Particle Size Analysis

General Information

Particle Size Analysis (PSA) is an important technique to measure the size or solid or liquid particles. There are several technical procedures, or laboratory techniques to determiner the particle size of a sample. We have access to a Malvern Mastersizer 3000 and a Malvern Zetasizer Nano Z. The Zetasizer can also calculate the zeta potential of a colloidal dispersion.

Booking

All equipment must be booked before use. An Analysis and Booking Form must be completed prior to analysis of samples. The latest version of this form can be downloaded here.

Brenda Barnard (email: u14037948@tuks.co.za; cell no: 082 399 1105) will be responsible for bookings and running samples. Please contact her for bookings and sample analysis. Please remember to include a valid cost center number on the form for costs.

Charges

Unless otherwise agreed upon, the above sample test work is billed at R70 per test for internal users if the sample is tested by the Requester (and the Requester is fully trained to use the machine), and R300 per test if the sample is tested for the Requester. External users from outside of the University of Pretoria will be billed at R600 ex VAT per test.
