The Engineering 2 Access Control Information page is intended to assist UP Chemical Engineering staff in navigating through the procedure to correctly request access for students, visiting researchers, contractors and external users. The sections below give more information on specific tasks related to access requests.

Postgraduate Access Procedure

  • Postgraduate students' access rights are updated automatically, every Friday morning, based on changes made on the Postgraduate students Google Sheet.
  • To ensure that this automated system is updated correctly, ensure that all fields are completed in full and correctly. Especially the column that indicates whether the student is registered, regardless of whether they have actually registered (during the beginning of a new academic year). Incomplete entries are disregarded by a machine and are not checked manually for any typos or mistakes.
  • Please also ensure that students who have left or have completed their studies are indicated as Registered (current year) > No. Urgent requests for the removal of students from any laboratory area can be done via email to chemeng.lims@up.ac.za.

CSC 411 Research Project Access Procedure

  • CSC 411 access rights are automatically assigned to the projects leader/supervisor within the first week of the academic year. Access will automatically be removed at the end of the semester. Access for students who need to access the project leader/supervisor's laboratory during recess or the second semester must be requested on an ad hoc basis.
  • Should access NOT be automatically assigned, please communicate this to chemeng.lims@up.ac.za before the start of the semester.

Ad Hoc Access Requests

  • Access requests for any scenario that is not done automatically must be requested by means of the Google Forms:
Please note that all EmplID's submitted MUST be 8-digits, leading zeroes MUST be added. Take special care to format Excel spreadsheets as text before uploading as the default Excel setting are to remove leading zeroes. EmplID's containing only 7 digits are disregarded in bulk uploads.

Request for Disabling a Card Access Door

  • Requests for disabling card access doors for functions, meetings and various other reasons can be requested here. These requests MUST be submitted at least one week in advance.
