Free software as opposed to proprietary software is software that comes with lots of rights you usually don't have when buying software, namely

  • The right to modify the software (which usually entails having the Source code available, leading to another name for such software -- Open Source software. Open source is a misnomer) - The right to resell the software with or without your modifications - The right to make copies of the software for personal or business use.

Quite different from the usual EULA we all click accept on.
