The mainframe system uses the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_3270 3270 protocol], and you will need a terminal emulator that can handle this protocol.  This should be set up if you use the standard UP image, but you may need to install a terminal emulator if you use Mac OS X or Linux.
